Sturdy Casino Decks
A good deck does more than add space—it gives you a spot to relax, entertain and enjoy the outdoors in comfort. Whether you're after a quiet spot for morning coffee or a larger outdoor area for weekend gatherings, a well-built deck can make a big difference to how you use your home.
Based in Casino and servicing the Northern Rivers, Barling Constructions designs and builds timber decks that match your home, your lifestyle and the conditions on your block. We consider drainage, access, orientation and material durability to make sure your new space is safe, functional and long-lasting.

Decks For Everyday Living
Decks are one of the most versatile additions you can make to a home, especially in the Northern Rivers climate. Whether it’s a small entry landing or a full wraparound veranda, we build decks that suit the layout and structure of your home while making the most of your outdoor space.
We work with hardwoods and treated pine to create long-wearing surfaces that can handle sun, rain and foot traffic. We’ll also make sure everything—from posts and bearers to stairs and handrails—is solid, secure and up to code. If you’re replacing an ageing or weather-damaged deck, we’ll remove the old materials, inspect the substructure and make any necessary repairs before rebuilding. Our focus is on usability, access and finish—so you’re left with a deck you’ll actually want to spend time on.

What’s the best timber for outdoor decks in NSW?
Popular choices include spotted gum, blackbutt, merbau and treated pine. Hardwoods like spotted gum and blackbutt are dense, durable and termite-resistant, making them ideal for high-traffic areas. Treated pine is a more affordable option and can be stained to suit your colour preferences. The best choice depends on your budget, site conditions and the look you're after.
Do I need council approval to build a deck?
In many cases, yes. If your deck is elevated over a certain height (typically 600mm above ground level), is attached to the house or exceeds certain dimensions, you'll need council approval. A licensed builder can help you determine whether your project falls under a Complying Development or needs a Development Application.
What maintenance is required to keep a timber deck in good condition?
Regular maintenance includes sweeping, cleaning, oiling or staining the timber every 12–18 months to protect it from weathering and UV damage. Keep an eye out for signs of moisture, splitting or loose fasteners. Depending on exposure and foot traffic, some decks may need re-coating more often.
